Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of the distribution of tailings including:

correctly interpreting and applying work instructions

selecting and using the required tools and equipment

working wearing appropriate personal protective equipment

identifying and applying hazardous goods handling techniques

interpreting reports

identifying and applying lifting techniques (manual, cranes and loads)

identifying and applying isolation techniques

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the distribution of tailings that meets all of the required outcomes including:

using a range of communication techniques to convey information to others

maintaining written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

demonstrates completion of the distribution of tailings that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

completing pre-start and start-up procedures and checks

completing shutdown and isolation operations

completing dust suppression and extraction operations

preparing site and position and stabilise equipment

reading and interpreting data from equipment indicators

controlling feed to equipment

monitoring bunded areas and managing overflows

inspecting and adjusting equipment

cleaning and storing equipment


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in distributing tailings through:

identifying equipment processes, technical capability and limitations

identifying and applying techniques for flushing lines

identifying repair requirements

accessing and interpreting metallurgical and technical data (basic) relating to tailings

identifying and applying techniques for pumping systems

identifying and applying techniques for reclaiming ponds/dams

identifying and applying techniques for securing pipes

identifying and applying security, site and spillage procedures
